We met Sunflower (also known as Sunny) on March 31, 2018 at the SF SPCA. I had seen her online on the 28th, since my family and I were looking for a new dog to rescue after we lost our last dog Cherry. She was adorable from her photo, but she had some scars so I knew she needed a loving home. I convinced my mom to come down and “just look”, and within 5 minutes of meeting her she said, “Don’t worry baby, you’re coming home with us.”
Sunny came home on the day before Easter and came up to the barbecue in my neighborhood with us. She slept in my arms—all 42 lbs. of her—and did zoomies all over the house.
She was just the thing we needed. Cherry, our last dog, was sick with cancer and we had to be by her side for months because the chemo had a negative reaction. It was hard saying goodbye, but we knew that Sunny was brought to us by her: Her birthday was on the day we lost Cherry.
Sunny is now absolutely spoiled and goes everywhere with us, from the beach to the dog park and anywhere else we can drive. She got a great life and we got a great dog—and I think it was the perfect match.
